Stop! the Skill Act of 2006

Updated November 10, 2006

The SKILL Act of 2006 has been designed to devastate the careers of IT professionals all across America.  It will literally remove IT as a valid profession in the United States.  The legislation will :

A)  Immediately double the number of H1B visas which are allowed each year to bring in low paid computer professionals from other countries.

B)  Increase the number of H1B visas allowed by 20% each year indefinitely into the future.

This will provide American corporations with an unlimited supply of low paid skilled IT workers from abroad.  American IT workers will be layed off by the thousands and the pay for those who are lucky enough to remain will plummet.

The SKILL Act of 2006 is actually two bills.  One in the House of Representatives (HR5744) and one in the Senate (S-2691).  Congress is determined to pass this legislation before the end of the year because it is unlikely it would pass the new congress which takes power in January.  In order to hide their actions congress will probably attach this as stealth legislation at the last minute to an omnibus spending bill which will pass with no one knowing what has been done.

Who Voted For This Legislation:

The following two links list  ALL members of the Senate and the House.  After this legislation is voted on I will show how each congressman and senator voted.   When election time roles around again, IT workers all across America will know who they need to vote out of office.  The House and Senate members are listed here:

Please Contact Your Representative:

Please contact your representative and let them know you are against passage of HR5744 (House) and S-2691 (Senate).  A phone call to your representative is the most effective way of getting their attention.  An email is good if a phone call is not possible.  Let them know you will hold them accountable if they vote 'yes' on a bill in which this legislation has been secretly attached to.
